Men's basketball lost in quarter finals with a loss to Fullerton

The No. 4-seeded (in the north) Mustangs were defeated in the quarterfinals of the State Tournament 71-61, by No. 1 seed (in the south) Fullerton, Friday, March 10.

Tim Denson scored 18 points. And Phil Jones had 13 points and six rebounds to lead Fullerton in the Selland Arena in Fresno.

"They were the better team tonight," coach Brian Katz said.

Delta's leading scorer and rebounder, Kevin Bland, fouled out midway through the second half, leaving Delta trailing by 13

Bland scored 11 points on five of 13 shooting, including one of five from three-point range.

Mike Kirby scored 14 points to lead Delta, and Fresno State transfer Carl Ross scored eight points in front of his hometown fans.



Softball



The Lady Mustangs beat Cosumnes River 6-1 and 11-0 in a Big Seven doubleheader, Wednesday, March 8.

Ashlee Young, Kristie Cornell and Megan Young each had a single and two RBI in game one.

Delta connected with 14 hits in the second game.

The Lady Mustangs won two games in the Golden West Tournament, Friday, March 10.

Young went four for six with a double, triple and four RBI on the day, as Delta beat San Diego Mesa 12-8 and Orange Coast 11-2.

Amanda Vickers and Kristin Lozano had triples for the Lady Mustangs against San Diego Mesa.



Baseball



Delta put together a 7-1 lead as Sierra rallied, but fell to the Mustangs 11-9, Thursday, March 9.

Jacob Myking belted a three-run double, as Delta scored five times in the third inning and four in the fifth.

Noah St. Urbain and Riley Gavello each went three for five.
