Men's basketball dominate in Ohlone Tournament

Sophomore forward Kevin Bland led the Delta Mustangs to a 72-67 victory over Foothill College as he scored 38 points in the Ohlone Tournament in Fremont, Friday, Nov. 25.
Vic Cannizzako scored 25 points for Foothill, but was frustrated down the stretch by good defense from Delta's Jerry Beverly and Isaac Vice.
"The game kind of turned around when we got control defensively," head coach Brian Katz said.
Carl Ross scored 16 points as the Mustangs defeated Contra Costa 63-50 in the semifinals of the Ohlone Tournament, Saturday, Nov. 26.
Women's basketball
The Lady Mustangs lost their first game of the overall season Sunday, Nov. 27, 63-47 to City College of San Francisco
Delta managed to outrebound the Lady Rams 33-26, but they turned over the ball 18 times in their 16-point defeat.
Necolia Simmons led Delta with 19 points, and Jazz Herrera had four points and nine rebounds.
Volleyball
Freshman setter Hillary Rasmussen was named an All-American by the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and freshman middle blocker Francis Sandor was named to the All-Northern California team.
Football
The Delta Mustangs finished the Valley Conference with a 2-8, 1-4 record, which was the worst in head coach Gary Barlow's five-year reign.
Delta lost numerous players early on to injuries, including running back Jesse Miguel and lineman Steve Dunigan.
The Mustangs landed in the fifth spot in the six-team conference.
Linemen David Gutierrez, Barryn Davis and Andrew Sagote, wide receiver Brandan Anson and linebacker Fernando Inigo were named first team All-Valley Conference, and linebacker Matt Bell was an honorable-mention selection.
