Small decisions affect your everyday life

Natalia Diaz

Issue date: 12/2/05 Section: Opinion
Our lives are based on our decisions. Everything we do is the result of a choice, but how do our decisions affect our life?

The decisions we make every day can affect our life in two directions: positive and negative. A simple decision can destroy us, or give us success; a good example is when we choose what to eat. If we choose to eat something unhealthy, we know what it will do to our body. What about when we are cold and we decide to smoke a cigarette to feel warm? Where do you think that decision will take us? Since the days are cold, are we going to decide that every time we are cold, that a cigarette is a good choice? Why not decide to quit? That is a choice, too.

Sometimes the decisions we make, without thinking before doing them, make us pay an expensive price, as our lives are. The choices we make decide how our life is and how it is going to be. There are many decisions we have to make every day, and every single one affects our life. Personal decisions can be based on family, friends, and love. Family: What should I get for mom's birthday? If I buy a dress, she may not like it, and if I buy a card, it is too cheap. Friends: Should I go shopping with my friends? If I go, I would spend a lot of money, but if I don't, I won't have that jacket I want. Love: Should I call him, or wait until he calls? If I don't call him, he may get mad, but if I do, he will think he can do whatever he wants. Those decisions are simple to make, but the results of them affect us sentimentally, and when it comes to feelings, we should care more. Keep in mind, the two directions our decisions can take, positive or negative.

Professional decisions can be taken at school or at a job. School: Should I go to my class? If I don't go to class, it will affect my grade, but if I do, I will get bored. Job: Should I work overtime? If I don't, I will not have enough money to buy Christmas presents, but if I do, I'll be exhausted. These decisions are serious, because it can decide how successful you are going to be in life. In making these decisions, we should take extra time to think about what we want to do.
