Clubs night canceled

Due to club squabbling, event canceled at last minute, sending away students

With events and issues going on with clubs during the past few weeks, and with three clubs being suspended by the Interclub Council, Clubs' Night, scheduled for Nov. 18, was canceled. During the night, ASBG provided food for students who showed up for the event. Members from MEChA showed up to protest.

Daniela Mongejano, president of MEChA, who was protesting, said, "The reason we are doing this is because there were 10 weeks of deliberations that took place in the Interclub Council, and our Interclub Council voted that three clubs be banned, Caudillos Fureza Unida, Puente, and LULAC and lose their club status, and that decision was made at the last ICC meeting.

"Yesterday, the president of the college decided to reinstate the three clubs, and they are here at Clubs' Night as if they did not lose their club. We feel that it is unfair, and our student rights have been taken away, and it's as if what the ICC said does not even matter. We are outraged about the president's decision and we're getting petitions and we going to collect them," she said.

Raul Rodriguez, president of Delta College said, "The student government officers came to meet with me, and they asked me to encourage them to continue the appeal process. They were afraid that they would stop that process, because the board directed me and John Williams to run an investigation on the ICC action. I think one of the reasons the board directed me was because I think it took everyone by surprise about how severe the penalty was."

When asked about the administration and the board of trustees getting involved in student activities, he said, "I think 99 percent of the time you don't want to interfere in student decisions, but you have to remember that the board of trustees is the
