I met Mos Def! I repeat: I met Mos Def! I've been waiting my whole life to be able to say that.
It's not HIP if you can't HOP to it.
Sweeping across the nation, the Breed Love Odyssey Tour consisted of Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Ghostface Killah, Jean Grae and K'Naan.
Three nights in one week of Hip Hop in its most phenomenal form with Hip Hop's most influential and inspirational new-school visionaries.
October 28 in Sacramento is just how Sacramento as a city is: not so spectacular, and why? The crowd. This wasn't my first time seeing Mos Def in Sacramento, so I wasn't anticipating much. (I've seen Mos Def five times. Yes, I'm crazy but who isn't?) Talib Kweli canceled and that got me upset. Mos Def was playing the piano, so I forgave Talib Kweli for canceling.
K'Naan, Jean Grae, Pharoahe Monch were great, it's just too bad the Sacramento crowd wasn't hyped enough. Halloween was the highlight! It was the best! My friends and I didn't arrive in Santa Cruz until 4 p.m. I was ready to wait in line for will-call and I thought I was going to be the first. It turns out someone else is crazier. (I never thought I'd see that happen.) He had been waiting in line since 3 p.m.
Two or so hours of waiting was the worst, and what makes everything even worse is how much of an idiot I am. Mos def. MOS DEF. walked past me and my initial reaction? "Oh my God. It's Mos def." IDIOT! I missed it. I could've been having his baby. AHAHA.
Showtime! K'Naan opened up and the crowd was in for a treat. K'Naan is a group from Somalia, and it was their first time touring in the United States. The United States are going to hear much from K'Naan soon. "I'm a Ja Rule poster. I'm off the wall and I make 50 Cent look like Limp Bizkit," (K'Naan).
Jean Grae is one of the reasons why I love being a female in Hip Hop. She's raw! From the way she raps to the way she sings, if I could be half as astonishing as Jean Grae, I'd be lucky. She's supernatural. The crowd was in awe from the beginning to the end of Jean Grae's set.
