Your leader's do matter

After finishing Augustine's City of God and Letters Faustus, I have just one question: where did you all go so terribly wrong? Here's this brilliant guy with all of these beautifully eloquent theories on the ways in which God represents himself in the world.
Dear Saint Augustine [founder of the just war theory!] and all of these Catholics are suddenly voting Republican? Augustine would have wept at Bush's war in Iraq!
Why do you people do this? Is it abortion? My friends, in Clinton's presidency the rate of abortion went down 11 percent from Regan's administration, and after Bush took office abortion rates increased again!
Let's think about this: "Poor" women are having a good many of these abortions, so what could possibly make them increase during a Republican presidency? Could it be the fact that Democrats encourage social programs that help poor women support a family and provide healthcare for their infant children?
I'm not saying I fully agree with all of these social programs, or even fully with Democrats in general. However, I have a sneaky feeling that most of these Catholics are just being emotional and voting against "baby-killers," without realizing that these wonderful, religious, "God-loving" Republicans are actually causing more and more poor women to choose abortion, because they know they couldn't support a baby.
Go ahead and call me a jerk. I mean no offense to anyone [or shall I say everyone] who is Catholic, because I know this doesn't apply to all of you, but the numbers are increasing.
Catholics used to vote overwhelmingly Democratic; now they're almost half and half. Most, excuse me for using these labels, "liberal" Catholics vote Democratic and most "conservatives" don't.
I hope some of this information sticks with you next time you go to vote.
