As the holidays near so do the traditions that are incorporated within them.
Throughout the year, there will be many different ways in which people choose to celebrate the events in their lives, but the First Church of Christ Scientist is one that wants to get the word out to those who have yet to hear of them. Who are they and what are they all about? First things first; what is Christian Science? Christian Science is a religion based on the Christian religion, which, in turn, is based on the works of Jesus, the prophets, and the Bible. Christian Scientists focus on the teachings of Jesus and believe that he is telling people to do the works of healing (spiritual healing). According to the First Church of Christ Scientist, "We are a branch of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. It was founded in 1879 by the discoverer of Christian Science,
Mary Baker Eddy, "To commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing."
Eddy was the one to start it all, because she reported experiencing a healing after suffering from an accident that was supposed to be fatal, but the next thing she knew she was walking out from her second floor hospital room healed. From that point on she claimed to be able to heal others. She eventually wrote a book called "The Science and Health" with the key to the scriptures based upon the Bible and its teachings that focused on the spiritual healings of the Lord. The Christian Science religion highly focuses on spiritual healing through prayer, but that is not to say that they don't believe in doctors because they believe that doctors have a pure intent, but its just that they prefer prayer first.
Christian Science is the science of Christ which means Christ's truth. According to Sunday school teacher Terry Ullman, "The Christian Scientist believes in one God and are not trying to prove others wrong." According to the Christian Science Sentinel, "The term science indicates that which can be proved, which is consistent, which points to law at work. When you merge those two words together, you have the life and ministry of Christ Jesus-of disciplines and following him-and putting into practice on a constant, everyday basis this law of God, of divine love. God is always present, always love, truth, life. He's never arbitrary, never distant. God's laws are always something to be proved, to put into practice."
