Katrina Cockerill and Sarah Watt scored a school and season-high records

Delta women's water polo team's Katrina Cockerill set a career record for assists, and Sarah Watt added to her single-season school mark for goals, in leading the Lady Mustangs to a 12-4 win over Big Seven South rival Modesto Junior College Wednesday, Oct. 19.
Watt scored three goals, extending her season total to 95, which leads the state. Just last week, she broke Amanda Cooper's single-season school record of 91 goals, set in 2002. Cockerill had six assists Wednesday, Oct. 19, to send her career total to 77, which breaks the standard of 75 set by Katie Shores in 2002.
After the match win, the Lady Mustangs tied with Merced for the conference lead.
Christine Setness shut out the Lady Pirates leading scorer Katie Devlin to lead Delta's defense. Devlin scored six goals in their previous match Wednesday, Oct. 5. Setness made four steals, and goalkeeper Melisa Addison recorded 11 saves and three steals. Elise Schwartz led Delta with four goals, and Setness and Cockerill each had two goals.
Cross Country
The Delta team will be heading to the conference championships Saturday, Oct. 29, and hope to qualify for the NorCal Championship meet Saturday, Nov. 5.
"We have been preparing for the next two races all season long. Cross country is a little unique in that we have all kinds of meets to run in and get ready for two big meets," said Dan King. "We should compete and do fairly well, considering we have an entire freshman team. The have been training hard in preparation for the next two meets. We shall see if our hard work will pay off. There is a great deal of pressure on the men's team, especially for a few individuals to step up."

The Mustangs outscored the Beavers 6-2 by the half, but according to Delta coach Larry Huiras, the two new referees "never reff'ed a guys game" before and put American was back in it to win it.
"It's like they put American River back into the ball game," he said. "They were calling so many kick outs on our side."
Delta pulled out a 12-7 victory as Jen Young and K.C. Drake scored three goals each. Thomas Dietrich and Nick Krieger had two apiece, and Derrick Davis and Mike Kemether scored one each for Delta. The Mustangs, goalie Andrew Grafius recorded 11 saves.
Volleyball
The Lady Mustangs won their 122nd consecutive conference match, Wednesday, Oct. 19, as they beat American River 30-24, 30-22, 33-31.
Breanne Zellmer made 13 kills and seven digs; Alicia Karver had 12 kills, and Hillary Rasmussen recorded 50 assists for Delta.
