Trick-or-Treating, a changing tradition

Trick or treating has been a long-time tradition for this country. It's one night of the year for children to have fun, dress up and yes, stuff their faces with as much candy as possible. But is the tradition becoming less for children and more for adults?

I don't know about you, but I often notice "older" people joining in on the candy collecting. Some hide it well, of course, by dressing up their 8-month-old and taking him around. Don't be fooled, it's all a facade. Obviously the child isn't going to eat the candy, and I'm sure they're not avidly enjoying being dressed up in a ridiculous outfit and walked around the cold, dark streets with a bunch of screaming children running around. Is the parent just in it for the candy? I'll let you answer that yourself.

So how old is too old when it comes to trick or treating? Many high schoolers still engage in the "sport." A lot of people who hand out candy refuse to give any to older kids. I could probably get away with it right now, but that's because I look like I'm 12. The point being that it's becoming very apparent that 30-year-olds are trick or treating and the people giving out candy aren't too excited about donating treats to their cause.

It kind of makes me laugh to think about the fact that 30-some-year-olds are so desperate for candy that they would pretend to be taking their infant trick or treating only to reap the benefits themselves. I mean, if you really want candy that badly, do you honestly have to wait until you can get it for free and risk being made a mockery of? I don't think so.

So, for all of you adults out there taking your kids around, don't think you've fooled us. We know your tricks and we know your secrets, so maybe you'd like to reconsider being ridiculous and going door to door for candy this year.
