Danner Hall was evacuated the evening of Monday Oct. 17 upon discovery of a device that was, according to the college's press release, "a suspicious-looking device."
First to be notified of the object's presence were the bookstore cashiers, when a student told them he had seen someone place what looked like a pipe bomb on a concrete ledge near the store. The student asked for the number of the campus police. Once the situation was assessed the Stockton Police were called and evacuation of campus began. Later that night, approximately 10 p.m., according to witnesses, the bomb squad arrived and according to the official press release, "rendered the object safe."
All of the Danner Hall workers were removed and waited outside Shima for the problem to be taken care of. These workers were unable to return home because their property, including their car keys, were inside Danner. Jesse Valdez, Danner Hall custodian, helped to get them home.
"I had to go back inside the building and go back and forth to the kitchen with the workers' backpacks and keys so they could go home."
At this time there is no word of a suspect but there was at least one witness to the placement of the device and an investigation of the incident is underway.
