Delta's wrestling team records two victories and Beeny Garcia brings home another MVP honor at the Modesto Tournament

The Mustang's Mike O'Brien gave Delta what they needed to take down the Panthers in the final wrestling match.
O'Brien took out his Sacramento City opponent (184 pounds) 16-0 to give the Mustangs a 17-16 victory, Wednesday, Sept. 28.
It was the first time a Mike Sandler coached Delta wrestling team defeated Sacramento.
"A lot of guys stepped up for us," said Sandler, who's in his ninth season.
Greg Salatti moved up two weight classes and won his match at 165 pounds. Bobby Cearley was victorious at 197 pounds.
Sophomore Benny Garcia, the No. 1 ranked 141-pound junior college wrestler in California, went 4-0 at the Modesto Tournament, Saturday, Oct. 1.
Garcia went on to received the MVP award his second of the season. First was at the Sacramento City Tournament Saturday, Sept. 24.
Freshman Caleb Mack won the 133-pound division, while Cearley (184) and Carlos Ordenez (184) placed second and fourth, respectively.
"It was really nice to have three guys make the finals, and this is Benny's second MVP," Sandler said.
Women's water polo
Sarah Watt scored seven goals and Christine Setness and Katrina Cockerill each scored three to lead the Lady Mustangs to a 16-7 non-conference victory, Tuesday Sept. 27.
Elise Schwartz had two goals and five assists, and goalkeeper Melisa Addison had six saves and two assists for Delta.
Watt scored four goals to top the Lady Mustangs 10-7 loss to Modesto, Wednesday. Modesto's Katie Devlin had six goals for and Lorna Lynott had 22 saves. Cockerill recorded two goals and Sabrina Connor had one for Delta. Addison had 10 saves.
The Lady Mustangs fell behind 6-0 early in the second quarter, while they tried to fight back, the hole they dug was too deep.
They lost 11-7 to Santa Rosa, Thursday, Sept. 29.
Watt scored five goals for Delta and has 55 this season, which is the third-highest total in the state.
Cockerill and Setness had one goal each and Addison recorded seven saves.
