Stockton and Lodi are brother cities. Both keep growing through the years. But because of the new construction, could someday the limits of the two cities disappear? The limits of both cities are shown by signs, but if construction continues going one toward the other, the divisions could disappear.

It is usual to see land with no population between cities; that is used as a way to show the limits of the cities, but there are some exceptions. Stockton and Lodi could be one.

The construction of new houses and other buildings is rapidly gaining territory in both cities that will probably lead to not being able to clearly identify when one is in Lodi or Stockton. The increase of population in both cities is obviously the reason for the blurring of boundaries. "Without limits we would not know if we are close to our destination," said Crystal Moore. Divisions are a necessity.

This situation, as any other, can have disadvantages and advantages.

"I would not like to live in the border of a city because I would be away from everything," Moore said.

That could be an advantage because if there were no divisions between the two cities essential services such as a grocery store would be close. But the disadvantages could affect more than the advantages could benefit.

Imagine countries, states, cities with no divisions. It would be a complete chaos. It is well known that each state of the nation has its own rules, and with no divisions, what would happen? One of the problems that could appear could be security. How could cops control or take care of a larger number of people? It would be a confusing situation and the cities would become unsecured.

Another obvious problem would be the constant battles over land.

"Small groups are easy to control," Nicole Cash said; that is a good example why divisions were made.

Stockton and Lodi don't have that problem now, but they will have if the population keeps growing.

If there were no divisions in the entire nation that would be a serious problem, not as big as not having divisions in two small cities as Stockton and Lodi, but to avoid conflicts or confusion that, the usual procedure should be to easily identify the division between cities. It is always good to know where you are and for a certain reason each city has a name.
