"Pass the popcorn!" says little Billy as he sits down to watch the show of a lifetime.
If you don't know what I'm talking about... there's word going around about changing the way a family can watch one of their comrades give birth.
Instead of having a member of the family in the room with the soon-to-be mother comforting her, holding her hand etc., etc., the birthing woman will be put in a room with a large window. Outside of the window will be a row (or rows) of seats where the family members can sit and watch the woman give birth.
Um, I don't know about you... but I think this is just a little bit creepy. If I were giving birth (hahaha!) I know I would definitely not want an audience.
To me is seems kind of... I don't want to say disrespectful, but maybe kind of impudent to put a woman in "TV" screen, if you will, and line people up in rows of seats to watch the show.
I'm not saying giving birth is something that shouldn't be witnessed, but to be witnessed in a way such as this might be construed as somewhat on the weird side. It reminds me of something that would be in a novel written about the future. Where everyone has certain job; such as giving birth. And the people watching the woman give birth through the window are other women "in training".
That brings another point into play; is the government somehow involved in this? Is it all a big conspiracy? Am I just being crazy, or does it seem a little suspicious?
Well, no, it doesn't. I don't see how this could be anything other than just plain peculiar.
Could you imagine sitting movie theater style watching your mom, sister, aunt or cousin give birth? Shoving a fist full of popcorn into your mouth with your left hand and sipping a large coke with your right.
I guess having your family watch you give birth as it's happening could be easier than videotaping it, but I mean... still... how weird is that.
I know all I've been doing is exclaiming how odd this whole idea is, but come on... just think about it.
