The upset look on Mustang quarterback Jeff Combie's face spoke for itself.

His words depicted the story of the game.

"It's just a matter of execution," said Combie. "You just can't win with turnovers."

Without a doubt, turning the ball over as often as the Mustangs did Saturday, a win would have been anything but believable.

The Delta squad (1-3) turned the ball over five times, which gave the Sacramento City College Panthers" (2-2) offense several chances to capitalize on their way to a 48-32 road victory over the Mustangs.

Mustang quarterbacks Abel Werner and Combie were picked off several times and Combie also lost one fumble as it seemed like no matter what kind of momentum the Mustangs could build up, it would be devoured by a scrappy Panther defense.

Mustang head Coach Gary Barlow knew his team lost the game on the several turnovers his team gave up.

"We turned the ball over early in the game and it put our defense in a bad position," he said.

From the look of things in the first quarter, it appeared the Mustangs were prepared to dominate the Panthers when Lionel Scott turned the corner on two runs, picking up several yards and driving the ball into Panther territory.

Combie then completed a pass to freshman receiver Thomas Bush to put the ball inside the five yard line, which set up Montay Brown's first touchdown run of the game, and the Mustangs were out in front with 7-0 lead with 14:15 still to go in the first quarter.

But the Panthers bounced back with an impressive drive of their own. Panther quarterback Garrett Congdon was dazzling on the drive, completing several quick timing route passes and little dump-offs that piece by piece kept their drive going, setting up a 15-yard run by Marcellus Grigsby as he carried would-be tacklers into the end zone for his first of several scores.

The Mustangs, however, would keep the lead after Barryn Davis put a hand up and blocked the extra point attempt, making the score 7-6.

With an early first quarter lead, the Mustangs were looking to expand the lead and take control of the game early. The pace of the game was then taken away quickly, after Combie fumbled the ball inside their territory after being sacked on first down, which led to another Grigsby touchdown run.
