The Lady Mustangs fall into a new league where a few teams are nearly unknown, such as Sierra, Cosumnes, and Diablo Valley. With the loss of Sarah Buhr to East Tennessee State University and Katie Hill to Cal State Hayward, Delta lost court presence and a "great" passer.

"I think this season looks very good, just because this is the deepest team since I've been here, within the last four seasons," said head coach Brad Friesen.

Even thought the loss of Buhr and Hill will be felt by the Lady Mustangs, a few incoming freshman are ready to rock the court.

"We have a very talented group of freshmen," said Friesen. "I think Frances Sander (from Lincoln) and Hillary Rasmussen (from Linden) are very talented players."

"We have a lot of talent and well-rounded players," said sophomore Karen Kroplin.

Sophomore Bre Zellmer feels that since she is the same age as the incoming freshmen, it's hard to see herself as a leader, but will help where it's needed.

"I am going to do what I can," she said.

The Delta team is filled with athletic women who are versatile, but some necessary work would be their ball control.

"They can play all over, but we really need to work on our overall ball control," said Friesen.

This team has always been goal oriented, setting them as small steps, to large steps with the focus on reaching each one.

"We have a big focus on improving and reaching the goals," said Sander. "Our big goal is to make it to state and league, and (the little ones are) putting meaning behind every point, making it count," said Rasmussen.

Sacramento City is definitely one of the Lady Mustangs' biggest rivals; each time they play the team , they want to trample them.

"When we play, them we wanna beat them and beat them bad," said Friesen.

Delta will take on DeAnza College Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Marcopulos Gym. They will head off to the Reedley College Tournament Saturday, Sept. 10.

"I have a lot of confidence in the squad," said Friesen.
