The Associated Student Body Government had to called an emergency meeting Tuesday, Sept. 6 to discuss Hurricane Katrina. The board wanted to give a donation the American Red Cross, but was unsure about how much.

"As you know, this is a national crisis. It's all over the news. Eighty percent of New Orleans is under water," said ASBG President Pierre Tapia. "One of our officers, Mary (as a Red Cross member). I would suggest between $2,000 to $5,000 dollars to donate."

The board agreed on $5,000, director of Student Activities, David Ferrell said they could donate the maximum if they chose. The board approved motion it.

During the meeting ASBG board members discussed sponsoring two staff members on the Delta College newspaper, the Impact; one writer and photographer, to cover the dister in of New Orleans.

"This was a idea that was brought up to bring our own school reporters on the sense of this nation disaster. They can get the experience to cover something this big," Tapia said.

"The idea is to bring this story home to our own campus," said ASBG adviser Ferrell. "We all know all The Impact on what's going on here, but I think if we sponsor the impact going there and writing a story about this, I think it will bring this kind of disaster home to are college campus."

The Board passed a motion approving $4,000 to spousor the proposal
