Sophomore Jill Schlenker put on an outstanding performance, Saturday, May 13, at American River College in the California Community College State Championships, as she won the woman's pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 9 inches.

Schlenker's accomplishment marks the fifth time in the last six years that a student from the Delta program has won a state championship.

"We are very proud of her and her ability to stay focused these past four weeks," coach Dan King said. "Her ability to remain calm when the tension was high at the state meet is attributable to her hard work and dedication."

King also says why this was so important for Delta itself, "Delta College has now nine California state track champions in six years," King said. "We feel that this is a remarkable task for our athletes."
