"They have been here for a year; they donated their time to any student that needs help. They set up all kinds of study groups on their own time. Whenever we needed help they were there," said nursing student Bonnie Buck. "Now the college has hired two full-time instructors. We don't have a problem with the new instructors, we just think they should obtain someone that is as good as the two we already have."
"They're really great people that did a great job. Miss Flanders helped me develop my technique for writing assignments; and all that is on her own time," Tim McDonald said. McDonald is also in the nursing program. "You can really spot good people and these are good people that are good at what they do," McDonald said.
Many students dressed in their scrubs and attended the Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday night and spoke to members on the board, but to no avail. There will be new instructors next semester in the nursing program.
"The two people that were hired this past year were hired only on one-year contracts just to help out through this year until we could hire a permanent nursing faculty. We followed the process, we did everything we could do, and to try and change it is a violation of the process. It is a violation of people's rights and equal opportunities," President Raul Rodriguez said.
