Four members of the Mustangs' track and field team qualified this weekend at the NorCal CC Championships at Merritt to move on to Sacramento for the state meet. One from the men's team, freshman Josh Linker, and three from the women's team, freshman Kelli McGeorge, and sophomores Jill Schlenker and Gina Turner.
Schlenker was most dominant in the pole vault as she set a new record at a height of 11 feet and 7 inches. She placed first overall in the event.
"Jill placed second in the State meet last year and is hoping to improve on that this weekend," coach Dan King said.
Schlenker also placed eighth overall in the woman's 100-meter dash with a time of 12.51 seconds in the finals and placed fifth overall in the preliminaries with a time of 12.59 seconds.
Turner put on her best performance of the track season as she put in a time of 16.07 in the finals and 16.80 in the preliminaries, which placed her seventh in the finals and ninth in the preliminaries.
Turner also ran the 400-meter hurdles and got a time of 1 minute 9.86 seconds in the finals, placing her in eighth, while placing seventh in the preliminaries with a run time of 1 minute 10.46 seconds.
