Fashion Club hosts annual exhibit

The Fashion and Interior Programs of San Joaquin Delta College hosted their Annual Exhibit of Student-Comprised work in the areas of Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising and Interior Design on Thursday evening, May 6, 2005 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Danner Hall.

On display were works in garment and accessory design, fashion illustration, fashion advertising and marketing, cultural costuming and interior design.

The exhibit also featured projects from courses in beginning to advanced apparel design, fashion promotion, fashion and culture, visual merchandising.

Various displays of designs from different countries, such as Greece, showed a mixture of clothing design the people of the Greek world and was arranged by Christina Papachistrs. Another was the assortment from Mexico, prearranged by Alicia Arceo, and the colorful clothing designs of Jamaica by Sodani Chan. Finally, there were fashion designs from Egypt and Peru by Anne Crutchfield.

Next was the display of actual designs by various designers like Zena Prum, who expressed that he thought of his creation as being very futuristic and different from the many designs, perhaps the most unique. Nicole Debruim commented on her flat iron design, which she did as a project It was "very interesting, and once the idea came, it was harder than expected...but then the fabric actually became an inspiration," Debruim said. Debruim also commented that the program she is in "is fun, and the instructor rocks."

Sergio Toledo of the interior program created his own fashion department from the ground up, called Emerge. He had to create the floor plan, interior for the inside of the department and planned the advertising as well as scheduling events to display his designs. He commented that creating the boutique himself was "an experience all in itself." Long Nguyen, who was also in flatiron design, said, "The project was mostly hard because of design around the faces and curves of the mannequin." He recommended that hopefuls looking to expand or improve their talent become part of the design and interior program.
