Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas debuted his first solo album this past Tuesday and his chart topping single "Lonely No More" gives us a sneak peak of what exactly his album holds.
Artists who do solo work on the side of their group sometimes don't strike it big without their band-mates alongside, but Thomas proves he can make it on his own.
This singer and songwriter balance nicely from his heavy pop-rock sound in "This Is How A Heart Breaks" to a catchy love ballad in "All That I Am." Also featured in the track "Streetcorner Symphony is Grammy-winning John Mayer on guitar which brings out the funk in the song, and the gospel-blues track "I Am an Illusion" samples Bessie Jones.
Long-time producer of Matchbox Twenty, Matt Serletic, certainly knows his stuff when producing solo with Thomas. He works with Thomas on unveiling a side of heartbreak, falling in love, and harmony in the world.
Lyrics featured in "Streetcorner Symphony" are "come on over, down to the corner, my sister and my brothers of every different color, can't you feel that sunshine telling you to hold tight, things will be all right, try to find a better life, come on over, down to the corner, my sisters and my brothers there for one another, come on over, man I know you wanna let yourself go."
No doubt in my mind Rob Thomas knocks a surefire first solo album. His success in the music business with Matchbox Twenty put him in the front- running of a achieved artist, and this CD just adds another accomplishment under his name.
