Dear Impact,
It was a pleasure to read Michael Hilal's column about Social Security. I did not worry about Social Security so much when I was in my 20s either. Now that I have been receiving SS since 1999, I am glad that there were people who thought like Michael for many years.
I think that over the years both Democrat and Republican administrations have raided the fund to pay for various adventures and wars. I think we must protect Social Security for future generations and people like Michael Hilal and others.
On Tuesday, May 10 the Gray Panthers and the Students for Social Security, along with other groups in the HOSS (Hands off Social Security) Coalition will have a rally on March Lane in front of Congressman Pombo's office to voice our demands.
Their demands state: No Privatizing, No Benefit Cuts, No Compromise and raise the Caps.
