The sunny day brought out many fans holding umbrellas during the Lady Mustangs' softball league opener, where they took on a double header with Yuba College.

As the innings went by, Meghan Dyer pitching through nine straight innings having three come up to the plate and sending them all back in her 19 strikeout no-hitter 1-0 victory over the 49ers.

"That's a big accomplishment," said Dyer of her 19 K's in nine innings. "Thank God I have the defense behind me."

As fans drew weary of the three-up/three-down, inning after inning, the excitement started at the bottom the ninth, where the game would end.

Yuba gave Delta a base runner as Melanie Nordhaus outran the second baseman's errors.

The crowd cheered as they jumped out of their seats that finally one team managed to get a base runner.

Amanda Vickers laid a bunt, but not one to be proud of, as the fans leaned in, the ball seemed to just float in the air, giving the 49ers every chance in the world to make the catch to give them their first out. But alas, the ball fell, staying in fair territory, giving the Lady Mustangs the edge for the win.

A passed ball gave Nordhaus and Vickers the chance to make it easy on Jessica Gonzalez who was at the plate, although Nordhaus kept everyone in suspense as she lay at third with the 49er, but she came up okay, giving the Delta coaches a scare.

Thus bringing in Cynthia Lovato to base run for her.

Gonzales took a breath as Amber Landurn threw the ball and a line drive to left-center, bolting in the winning run and giving the Lady Mustangs victory number one.

"I was happy we scored. We all weren't hitting," said Gonzalez.

Landurn went the distance for Yuba, striking out seven.

Game two wasn't lagging as Delta scored two runs in the second in Nordhaus' four-hitter complete game.

Vickers blasted a double, the second batter pulled out her bat for a bunt, but slapped the ball to third, making it to second after no one was covering the bag. Vickers came in to score on an early 49er error.

Then a the second batter dvanced to third and Dani Caldwell snagged and RBI out as she scored.

Gonzalez went 2-3 in the second game.
