The Mustangs' golf team shot for a combined two-under-par, 358, to win the first Bay Valley Conference tournament Thursday, Feb. 17 at Teal Bend Golf Course in Sacramento, where they became the first team to shoot under par in conference play.
"It was an outstanding round of golf, and it's not an easy course," Delta coach Van Sweet said. "It must have been a good day for golf."
Josh Harrison topped Delta with a three-under 69.
"He played an outstanding round of golf," Sweet said of Harrison, the sixth golfer.
Steve Meyer with 70, Joey Ferrari 71, Jason Foosum 72, Ross Vilinskas 76, and Kyle Kulling 76.
Two days prior, Tuesday, Feb. 15, the Mustangs played American River College at the Teal Bend Golf Course and shot a 365, and improved their score by seven shots in the tournament.
"If we keep playing this we will do all right, but Shasta's breathing down our necks," said Sweet.
Sierra placed second with 369, Santa Rosa was third, shooting 371, Butte placed fourth with 374, American River was fifth with 383, Napa Valley placed sixth, shooting 403, and Shasta was seventh with 422, Thursday.
Before this conference matchup, Sweet had said that the Mustangs had played the best round of golf on that course Feb. 15, but he now has a new "best round."
They scored 19 above the Beavers (365-410) in the rain Tuesday.
Meyer led the way was a two-under par 70, followed by Ferrari with 73, Harrison with 73, Vilinskas with 74, Kulling with 75, and Foosum with 79.
