Vietnamese dances, a fashion show, break dancing, hip hop, rapping, a dragon dance, singing, funny skits, and much more are scheduled to take place Saturday, Feb. 12, at the TET Festival in Delta's quad are.
Performers will be coming from Delta College, CSU Sacramento, UC Davis, Bear Creek High School, and Lincoln High School.
The TET festival is a Vietnamese New Year celebration of the lunar calendar. The actual day this year is the Feb. 9. Vietnamese New Year is the most important holiday in the Vietnamese community.
This is the Year of the Rooster, which occurs every 12 years. The rooster's character is self-reliant and independent. The Rooster is not one who seeks counsel. They are confident and aggressive and are most at home in a large crowd. The Rooster is also a perfectionist; it leaves no detail undocumented and never abandons its dreams.
Clarence Louie, the VSA club advisor, said, "I am very excited that we are going to host this celebration this year at Delta College."
There are some other Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) Officers who have helped Louie put the festival together, including President Tina Dang, Vice President Be Nguyen, Treasurer Duc Vo, and ICC Meeting Representative Julian Bryant.
"The VSA members have been working diligently, along with the community leaders," said Mr. Louie.
The festival in the quad area will begin with a traditional ceremony, which includes a lion dance to scare off the evil spirits and bring in good luck and good fortune.
The festival will be held in the Quad Area/Danner Hall Saturday from 11 a.m. until 3p.m. The event is free. For evening events at 6 p.m. in Atherton Auditorium, the cost is $10 per person; children eight and under are free.
