The Delta men's basketball team took the court against Sierra College Friday, Jan. 28, and came away with an important victory; the 72-52 win allowed Delta to enter the final four.

Delta grabbed the tipoff, but immediately turned it over to give Sierra the first points of the game. For a while Delta had a hard time making shots, missing two in a row; Kyle Huggett was able to make to the first basket for the Mustangs putting them on the board.

The Mustangs started to build momentum; Huggett hustled down court with the ball and made a great jump shot. Shortly after that, Chris Walker stole the ball, was fouled, and made both free throws.

Delta did a great job of keeping a tight hold on Sierra's moving capabilities, forcing Sierra to throw the ball to the other side of the court to keep it out of Delta's hands on more than one occasion.

Sierra surprised Delta with a great three-point shot from the top right of the key, but Roman Moniak answered back with a dynamic three pointer. Mike Philogene wanted to put some points on the board and landed a three point shot from the side of the key. At times it seemed Delta and Sierra were having a back and forth three-point shootoff.

At end of the first half Delta held a 13-point lead.

Sierra started off strongly in the second half when Juston Willis threw a smooth pass to Vince Keeton for a great basket, but Delta quickly resumed control when Walker stole the ball from Sierra and broke away for the only slam dunk of the night, pumping up his team.

Delta's energy continued to build when Jared Cozad spared his body to make an incredibly hard shot under the basket. Delta wanted to make it into the finials and they were showing just how far they were willing to go.

With only a minute left in the game, Flores fouled Ajay Riding in the eye. Riding appeared to be aggravated the foul and missed one of his free throws

"Every game is the same, we needed to stop their offense and work hard," said Walker. "Sierra is a dangerous team we had to stay focused."

"We approach every game the same and we focus on one game at a time," said coach Brian Katz.

"Come in and play hard," said Flores of his expectations for the game. "Delta has strong guards and they are the best team in the league."

Sierra's Coach John Fusano also commented that Delta's team was very focused. "They executed well and dominated the inside," stated Fusano.

Fusano's final words for Delta were," Good luck."
