Delta dominates in Holiday Bowl

The Mustangs dominated in the ninth annual Tri-Counties Holiday Bowl, beating Butte College 42-33 Saturday, Nov. 22 at John Cowan Stadium.
Maurice Dotson, Delta's running back, was named most valuable player with 16 carries for 183 yards and three touchdowns. He was also named to the All-Valley Conference team.
This team win was all about the big plays, and gave the No. 4 Mustangs a final record of 10-2, after beating the No. 2 seeded team in Northern California.
Butte's Webster Patrick made two touchdowns and ran for 233 yards of the Cougars' 583 yards on offense, giving them a slight lead in the first.
Keon Gaither claimed the defensive player of the game honor with returning a 61-yard interception.
With two touchdown passes, Steven Wichman was the offensive player of the game.

The Mustangs earned the lead after Wichman threw a lengthy touchdown pass to Gilbert Martinez, who collected seven catches and 150 yards.
Dotson made two touchdowns in the second half to give Delta a big lead over the Cougars, but Martinez added to the scoreboard with a 55-yard pass from Whichman, and Dotson hammered the final nail in the coffin with a 64-yard touchdown, leading Butte 42-27.
The Cougars gave it their all to add seven more points by a score in the last few minutes of the game, but it wasn't enough.
