Delta splits their game in the Merced pool Saturday, Nov. 6

The Lady Mustangs traveled to Merced to compete in the Central Valley Conference Championships Saturday, Nov. 6, and beat Modesto 9-6, but lost to Fresno 7-3.

Elise Schwartz scored four goals and Katrina Cockerill scored two goals to top Delta.

Sunday, Nov. 7, Schwartz was named a first-team All-American, along with the all-Northern California first-team. The freshman finished fifth in the state with 71 goals, 27 assists and 20 steals for the season.

Schwartz and freshman Katrina Cockerill were named to the 2004 Central Valley Conference's all-league first team. Freshman Christine Setness made the second team, and sophomores Jenna Pioli and Allison Williams were both received honorable mentions.

Women's volleyball

In the Marcopulos Gym, Cindy Stayton, Sarah Buhr and Katie Hoag together made 32 kills, Katie Hill had 13 digs for the Mustangs as they swept the American River Beavers 30-22, 30-26, 30-24 Friday, Nov. 5.

In the Fresno Classic Delta with their first loss of the season, top-ranked Golden West swept them 30-20, 30-23, 30-28, but the Lady Mustangs came back, beating Fresno City 30-20, 30-23, 30-28 in the three-team round-robin event, Sunday, Nov. 7.

Stayton recorded 19 kills, Hoag made 18 and Buhr had 17 in two matches.

Women's Cross Country

Caroline Garrett finished 10th and qualified for the California Community College State Cross Country Championships on Nov. 20 at Woodward Park in Fresno, Saturday, Nov. 7 in the NorCal Championships with a time of 21:06.

Wrestling

The Delta Wrestling team beat the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs 24-21 Wednesday, Nov. 3.

Five members won by decision; Harry Bestolarides 14-4, Benny Garcia 20-5, Greg Salatti 9-3, Mike O'Brien 7-2, Kenny Keller 9-7, and Phillip Morgan won by a forfeit.

NOTE

Delta College will be hosting the eighth celebrity tournament on Nov. 12 at Lockeford Springs Golf Course in Lodi. Seattle Mariners pitcher Eddie Guardado and Oakland Athletics catcher Adam Melhuse will make guest appearances.

This event is a four-man scramble format event and starts at 8 a.m. The fee is $100 per golfer, which includes green fees, cart, lunch and awards ceremony.
