Sonya Holguin scored first for the Delta Lady Mustangs eight minutes into the game, but their lead didn't last long as a "lucky" shot got passed Ashley Lopez to tie.

Tracy Johnson of Los Medeos hit a shot right into Lopez, which was reflected off her body, and Johnson kicked the ball into the net.

"That has never happened," said head coach Lloyd Ratto.

"I was really shocked, it just ricocheted off her cheat," said sophomore Carmen Setness. "They had a lucky goal."

With the game all tied up at one apiece, both teams stepped up on offense and defense.

"We moved the ball around and we were talking a lot," said Setness.

Although the Mustangs were kicking the ball around, and "talking it up," they fell to the Los Medanos Mustangs when Windy Hansen scored their second goal, assisted by Holly Ross.

"It will have to happen sometimes," said Lopez referring the shot by Johnson. "We couldn't have asked for any more."

Even with many players knowing they played well, Ratto said that his team needed to build up their defense, and work on the heading.

"We let the ball play us, we didn't play the ball," He said.

Many girls had chances to head the ball when it came from the Los Medanos goalie, but let the ball hit the grass and lost it to their opponents.

Christina Quitasol had a shot to tie the game up, but missed hitting the rim leaving the bench in disappointment.

With no control of where the ball would land, Delta was faced with a 2-1 loss.
