Delta's Nursing Department hosted a Healthcare Career /Job Fair for students going down the medical path to become an R.N., LVN, and CAN.

Twenty-nine employers from hospitals, convalescent homes, and centers came to the event, which attracted many of students gathering on the upper level of Danner Hall Wednesday, Oct 13.

The booths had many giveaways, such as pens, key chains, and even the Children's Hospital in Madero, near Fresno, had stethoscopes, along with flyers, cards and applications.

"We are recruiting registered nurses position," said Christy Sanders of the CH.

Pat Wettstein, Terry Tomasi and Tamara Gray of Beverly Health Care Center handed out popcorn and decorated their booth for Halloween, as did many others, along with giving out candy of all sorts.

"We're a team," said Wettstein.

Corie Moyers gave some advice to nursing assistant student Angela Anjiano, who will graduate on Oct. 22, and take her certification test Oct 28, about their job placement. They are looking for LVN, R.N., CAN and home care attendants.

"We want to let people know we are in the community and to keep Arcandia in mind (for jobs)," said Service Director Moyers.

Kelley Lafrhirer participating for the first time with two-time attendee Melanie Firpo, recruited people for Valley Health Care.

"We had a few new grads come through," said Firpo regarding last year's recruits.

"We are getting a lot of applicants," said Milissa Sangulong of San Joaquin County Hospital.

Fernando Galicia came out for a second time, supporting the Sutter Tracy Community Hospital.

"We get a lot of interest, but we are a small hospital, so we only get, like, one or two," said Galicia.

Lodi Memorial's Mary Lou Jenkins, who also is a nursing instructor, is recruiting R.N.S. They were giving out finger puppets, such as butterflies, ladybugs, and bees.

"Because in January the ratio will change," said Jenkins.

Mary Smith attended the fair for the first time, saying, "It's really nice, and we really enjoy it. I wish they had this when I was in school."

St. Joseph's Community Homecare attended for the first time, handing out information on the requirements of nurses there.

"The nursing staff has to have a year experience (before we can hire them)," said Carol Harpin.

Annie Calavan, director of staff at Mark Twain Convolescent Home, encourages students to join their team as a RN, LVN, and CAN.

They invited us to come, and anyone who wants to come work we send applications out to," said Calavan. "Come to beautiful San Andreas," she shouted as people wandered through the crowded hall.
