Delta rained last week defeating Sacramento City College 1-0, Tuesday, Oct. 5. Christina Quitasol assisted the ball to Monica Cortez to score the only goal of the game. The Lady Mustangs pushed The Panthers to a 2-5 record in the Bay Valley Gold.
Delta shut out Contra Costa 3-0 Friday, Oct. 8, with leader Deidre Rodriguez scoring two goals, and Quitasol made the third. They advance with a 4-3-1 Bay Valley Blue record.
Men's soccer
The Mustangs stomped on Feather River 6-2 Friday, Oct. 8.
Luis DeAlba made four goals in the first half to give Delta a huge lead. Alex Reyes and LaSalle Warfield each added one more goal apiece.
Women's water polo
The Lady Mustangs were smothered by Merced 13-2 Wednesday, Oct. 6, on their own turf, giving them their first loss. Leilani Kevewa scored four goals to lead the Blue Devils, while Delta's Elise Schuetz made two shots. Brittany Allee made eight saves in the game.
The women's water polo fell to number-five Chaffey 10-4 and number-one Riverside 13-3 in the Merced Invitational Friday, Oct. 8, where five teams from the north and south compete against each other.
Schwartz scored twice during the Chaffey game, along with Allison Williams, Jenna Pioli making some in game two versus Riverside.
In Saturday's games of the Merced Tournament, the Lady Mustangs were conquered by number-two Long Beach 15-2, and number-12 Saddleback 11-10 in a close game.
Schwartz scored eight goals in the two games, seven versus Saddleback. Her seven-goal accomplishment set a Delta College single-game record.
Football
Delta had a bye week and will open Valley Conference play at home against Reedley at 1 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 16, at DeRicco Field.
The Mustangs are number five in this week's Nor Cal community college poll, where Reedley is ranked 16th.
