After American River College arrived 30 minutes late, the Lady Mustangs fell short on the field 2-0 to the Beavers Tuesday, Sept. 28.

"We played the league's best today, and kept them to two," said head coach Lloyd Ratto. "They win league year after year."

Christa Kaufman put the ball past Ashley Lopez, who made 17 saves in the game, in the first half, while her teammate, Ashley Silas, got the second after the half.

"Those were lucky goals," said freshman sweeper Nicole Raley.

"Some have to fall in," said Lopez.

American River is sitting as the league,s best, but Delta is riding up close, only giving them space to score twice, after giving away nine last year.

"It's an honor to play a team of that caliber," said Lopez. "I work well with my defense and that's what it's all about."

The Lady Mustangs defense was riding hard, giving more then 100 percent.

"Our kids are playing good defense, but weren't able to score," said Ratto.

Diedra Rodriguez was yellow carded shortly learing the second half, giving the Beavers hope to lose a potential scorer from their opponent. American River had the same scare when Megan Pachecano was yellow carded soon after.

"That happens in a hot game like this," said Ratto.
