Steve Wichman, quarterback for the Delta Mustangs completed 31-of-40 passes for 287 yards and accounted for three touchdowns, in 35-28 win over the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs.
Jesse Miguel, Delta running back, rushed for 148 yards and scored twice.
Gilbert Martinez scored on an 18-yard pass from Wichman. Santa Rosa had 14-7 lead late in the second quarter, but Delta tied the game up at 14 with an 18-yard touchdown catch from Martinez.
The Mustangs took the lead 21-14 on a 1-yard run from Wichman's.
Santa Rosa made the game exciting when they rallied with a 5-yard run, and a 5-yard reception to take the lad back 28-21. Miguel's made a touchdown from a 46-yard run to tie again at 28.
Justin Huey made nine catches for 83 yards, Martinez had eight catches for 79 yards, and Miguel made five catches for 69 yards.
Men's water polo
The Mustangs lost to Merced 10 - 9 Wednesday, Sept. 29. David Rexroth led Delta with three goals. Andy Brooks and Cameron Heberle each made two goals. K.Ç. Drake Sean Swanson, and Thomas Dietrich made one apiece. Zach Barnes had 15 saves in the game.
Women's water polo
Katrina Cockerill, Elise Schwartz, and Christine Steness each had two apiece to beat Modesto 11-9, Wednesday, Sept. 29. Brittney Allee made six saves and five steals.
The Lady Mustangs went on to beat the Beavers 10-8 in Orangeville, Friday, Oct. 1, which was noted as "the game of the year," in a non-league game, by head coach Mike Leabo.
At the end of the first, Delta was down 4-0, but managed to tie the game the half.
Schwartz was on top for the Lady Mustangs with five goals, and Cockerill scored two. Allee saved 13 of 21 shots made by American River.
Volleyball
The Lady Mustangs beat Butte 3-0, Wednesday, Sept. 29. In the close game, scoring 30-25, 30-25, 30-20, Cindy Stayton led Delta with 13 kills, Karen Kroslin had eight kills, Sarah made seven kills and four blocks, Jen Emmerson recorded 20 assists, and nine digs, and Katie Hoag had 19 assists, six kills, and six digs.
