A common question from students is about who to take English courses from. Philip Hutcheon is a professor of English 1A, English 30 ( The Film as Literature) works in writing lab and 14 years of experience.

Hutcheon's reason for teaching at Delta is because he has been always around this area. He attended UOP as a undergraduate and had relatives living in Linden.

Hutcheon stated that when he reached age 40 realized that wanted a house and Delta College paid lots more so he moved.

He then switched from private college to public college because he believes he is more in common with students. "Public colleges offer education to everybody and feels more comfortable," he said. Because he used to work and study so he respects people that works hard and attend Delta as well.

"You get a chance to change the attitude of people that might have a negative attitude about education in the past," Hutcheon.

He likes being a teacher because he can interact with students in activities and participate with them for their better understanding.

Hutcheon enjoys teaching in class but he also likes to work in writing lab,

"I enjoy very much working in writing lab to get the chance to work one to one with students," he said.

He believes that he learns a great deal from student's ideas.

Hutcheon is very concerned about students and he recommends them to show an interest in learning and interest in their own education. Hutcheon said,

"Don't fall asleep, go to class, sit in front of the class and raise your hand," he said.

He advises students not to make excuses and work hard in order to succeed.

What Hutcheon does not like about Delta is that there exists some inequality with the classified staff because he feels they are underpaid. He hopes better wages are negotiated in the future.
